Masterclasses 2008 Testimonials
2008 Tutors were Craig Fraser, Steve Vandemon and Beej Curtis

Danni Assemakis (2008)

"I have to say that the time I had in England was well worth every pound. Everything was great and I learned so much. And thanks to the staff for being so good to me, because it wasn't the easiest to speak English all the time. I hope there will be something similar next year because I really want to be able to do it again."
Calle Jover (2008)

"My first time airbrushing under tuition, I found the Airbrush Masterclass 2008 course enjoyable, invaluable and inspiring. I received 1-to-1 help and sound advice from tutors and all the team at The Airbrush Company. Without hesitation I recommend anyone wanting to get started in airbrushing attend these courses."
Gary Reddy (2008)

Sanjay Topiwala (2008)
"Attending the Masterclass with Beej, Steve and Craig was a great and un-missable experience. They are all great, down to earth guys who really know their stuff, and were all positive and helpful with their advice and encouragement, which definitely developed my confidence and ability as an artist. They taught us from the fundamental theories and principles, to cool techniques and those invaluable hands on, 1 - 1 skills and advice that you can't beat. The guys also gave us great advice about equipment, materials, compatibility issues, and where problems and mistakes can be used to your advantage to take your artwork to un-chartered dimensions, the possibilities are endless so they say!"

"Something I haven't achieved from magazines or DVD's that I've seen, is the difference the little things make that you see first hand when you've created a two dimensional image. Then the Master shows you how to give it a three-dimensional feel with some extra tweaks like shadowing or highlights that turn it from good to superb.

Will Jobbins (2008)

"The course focuses mainly on supervised practice. You'll be shown what to do and how to do it, maybe twice, and then you'll be able to put what you've just seen onto paper (or aluminium). The tutors are on hand at all times if you run into difficulties, and will show you other techniques that you may have seen before and always wondered how to do"
Will Jobbins of Streetfighters Magazine (Will's full review can be seen in Streetfighters issue 180, February 2009)

Craig Fraser (2008)

"The Airbrush Company courses are tailored to give you maximum bang for your buck, so you won't be wasting your time with extended lunch breaks and you won't be given a lazy day theorising either. The courses push you well beyond your comfort zone, drawing the maximum from you, where real benefit from the experience is gleaned. Whilst it's unlikely that a raw beginner will end up as an accomplished airbrush artist after a few days tuition, practical application is kick-started by the course and you'll travel home full of enthusiasm and with an extremely good grounding, from which point you can start to make proper use of all that you learned. You'll also save a deal of frustration by starting off as you should and there's nothing more inspiring than being taught by someone at the top of their game - thanks Craig, you were an inspiration!"
Steve Dorling of Aviation Modeller International magazine (Steve's full review can be seen in A.M.I. December 2008 issue)

Craig Fraser (2008)

"As you can imagine, the students had a lot of work ahead of them. We never had a single complaint, and us three instructors were very implressed with the results. The students were a mixture of varied abilities, yet they all performed well at the tasks given them. While the curriculum was set ahead of time, the individual instructors custom tailored each of the classes to the ability of the individual students. This personalization and the small class size made the UK Masterclass a solid success.... Paint to Live, Live to Paint"
Craig Fraser (Craig's full review can be seen in Pinstriping & Kustom Graphics magazine issue 11, Nov/Dec 2008)

Review by Neil Gompertz
"Working on cars most of my life, and completing a BEng Honours Degree in Performance Car Technology a couple of years ago to develop my engineering skills, I never thought I'd be side stepping into the wonderful world of art, but always found myself waiting for that 30 second clip of the airbrush artist at work on the Discovery channel car and bike shows.

"Now, after getting my first airbrush as a Father's Day present this year, and buying a couple of templates and DVD's from the wonderfully attentive and efficient guys at The Airbrush Company, I couldn't quite get the time to get the hang of it all. So when I heard they were going to be running the Masterclass, and knowing I couldn't really afford it, I worked hard on getting the cash together to jump on it before it was booked up, and although it was quite a distance from where I live, it was in the same country so I didn't really care!

Lisa Munro (2008)

"Upon arriving we were greeted with the courtesy and enthusiasm of Lisa from The Airbrush Company, and introduced to the Artists in a fully equipped and comfortable training room at the college.

The guys also gave us great advice about equipment, materials, compatibility issues, and where problems and mistakes can be used to your advantage to take your artwork to un-chartered dimensions, the possibilities are endless so they say!

"It was also an inspiring experience to learn along side other enthusiastic students from different walks of life, and make some great friends.

Steve Vandemon (2008)

"Although it was six days away from my family, the class time flew by and there wasn't much time for me to shop for goodies (essential equipment and materials), so the dedicated and knowledgeable Airbrush Company team even patiently stayed late for me to browse and choose my purchases wisely (sorry Alex and Ken!). The week passed so quickly that I wished there was another week to go, as you can never stop learning, but hey that's just me!

"After returning home, and now wielding the airbrush at every opportunity, I found that the confidence and inspiration that I gained from completing the course also initiated my interest in going back to University to enrol on a BA Honours Degree in Design to nurture my new found talent and develop my fundamental skills as an artist, which is opening up even more avenues of discovery than I had imagined.

"I therefore hope to continue on this next new, multi-directional path of my career thanks to the inspiring and energetic Beej, Steve and Craig, and to the professional, efficient and very friendly team at The Airbrush Company."
Neil Gompertz (2008)

Review by Steve Healey
"This Master class series was a stroke of genius. Albeit the main genre was gothic skull duggery, there were elements that added a breath of fresh air and explored other areas such as tribal.

"The classes were the right size and had the freedom and flexibility to bend the agenda so it was changeable should the need arise to demonstrate or illustrate an idea or effect which could make a difference. This made discussions more productive, as the Masters could digress into showing us tips, tricks and techniques which were relevant and time saving without impacting the curriculum.

Steve Vandemon (2008)

"The interaction with other delegates covering all skill levels and from all walks of life enabled me to pick up some ideas and make some good contacts.

"Although I was out gunned where experience and prior knowledge was concerned compared to the other delegates, during the 6 day event I was able to break down some of the barriers I have regarding art and illustration, and gain a valuable insight into how effective some of the simplest ideas or basic designs can be.

"Something I haven't achieved from magazines or DVD's that I've seen, is the difference the little things make that you see first hand when you've created a two dimensional image. Then the Master shows you how to give it a three-dimensional feel with some extra tweaks like shadowing or highlights that turn it from good to superb.

"There is of course the Masters own work, which has that je ne sais quoi element that sets it aside from the rest and makes it jump off the easel. Watching the Master at work with literally your chin on his shoulder enables you to see years of experience flow from the airbrush and blossom into a three-dimensional master piece - Voilà !.

"It doesn't matter how long you do this, there will always be something to learn, either new or as an aide-mémoire to what you thought you knew before."
Steve Healey (2008)
