Weathering Techniques for Railway Modellers - George Dent TBA

The Airbrush Company presents a Weathering Techniques for Railway Modellers training course with George Dent.

George Dent

George Dent has been an active modeller for over 20 years and has been the resident model-maker for Model Rail magazine since 2004. As well as working for one of Britain's best-selling hobby magazines, George has also published a number of widely acclaimed books and instructional DVDs on various aspects of railway modelling.

Model by George Dent

Weathering Techniques for Railway Modellers is a hands-on study of how to create ultra-realistic models using an airbrush, paints and a variety of other media. Tools, paints and materials are covered, along with a range of special techniques such as distressing and buffing. Practical demonstrations are given, showing how to create anything from a lightly weathered locomotive to a rust-encrusted, filthy wagon.

This one-day Weathering course follows on from George's Airbrushing for railway modellers course, which covers the basics of general airbrushing. Weathering Techniques for Railway Modellers can be attended as a class on its own and is aimed at modellers who want to advance their existing airbrushing skills and apply weathering techniques. For the airbrushing component of this class, we recommend you already have experience with the basic control of an airbrush, or have attended George’s Airbrushing for Railway Modellers course or the Modeller's Beginning Airbrushing Course.

This is your opportunity to learn how to achieve the perfect finish with an airbrush. The training room is fully equipped with the highest quality equipment available on the market - Iwata airbrushes and compressors.

This one-day Weathering Techniques for Railway Modellers is immediately followed by George's one-day Advanced Weathering Techniques for Railway Modellers course, which you may book optionally (if places are still available).

  • Some scrap models will be provided for students to practice basic techniques on but students are required to provide a few models themselves (see below for details)
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served during the course

You will also need:

  • Models to work on – To obtain the best experience from this course, George recommends you bring at least 4 or 5 scrap models for practicing on (locomotives, rolling stock or small buildings), preferably cleaned and dismantled ready for painting. For large-scale modellers ('O' gauge and above), please don’t bring anything too big, as there will be limited workspace - a wagon or small loco body will be ideal. You may email George on to check on suitability of your models in advance.
